My parents surprised us Saturday morning with an unannounced visit so they could go to our trunk-or-treat and see the kids in their costumes. They arrived while Sally was at a Princess Birthday Party for her friend, Addie, from preschool. They offered to take us to lunch but while we waited for Sally to be done with her party I convinced them to have sandwiches at home and take advantage of the time together by going to a "pumpkin patch"- which has been an annual Henderson tradition since the early nineties but we haven't been able to do the past couple of years. My friend, Kirsten Black Baron, had recommended McDonald's Ranch in Scottsdale and it turned out to be a blast. We brought canned food to donate to the food bank and got discounted admission for everyone. There was a horse drawn hay ride out to an area where they had pumpkins to select, a hay maze for the kids, a petting zoo, horse rides, and other fun cowboy style activities. When my parents were deciding if they wanted to go to the pumpkin patch they asked the kids which they would prefer. Brittany and Shazer both said they'd rather go to Burger King for lunch than go to a pumpkin patch. During the time we were at the ranch and even many times after, Brittany kept saying to me "I can't believe I'd wanted to go to Burger King instead of coming here." So cute :)
Shule really IS having a good time- he just doesn't like to be bothered with picture taking.
The girls LOVED the hay maze...
Even the big kids (Shule especially) had fun racing through the maze.
My parents took in the Ranch atmosphere while the kids ran the maze.
Dad was totally in his element.
This was Sophie's expression just after I told her to move away from behind the donkey because it could kick her in the face. Think she believes me?
Cowgirl Sally
Shazer and Brittany enjoyed their horse rides so much they want to come back for a real horse riding session- we're thinking maybe in the spring for their birthdays.
Shule wasn't at all interested in riding a horse so he went and ran the hay maze again.
Can you see the horse shoe in this picture?
Super fun was had by all!

So glad you all had fun!! Cute pictures :)
