Our first little princess turned four today; it's crazy how time flies! I waxed reminiscent for a while today thinking about how nice it was to completely enjoy her baby-ness. Both the boys were in school when she was born so it was just her and me during the day for the first two years of her life. I remember really consciously taking time to enjoy every stage she was in. Her delivery was so difficult (labor lasted 36 hours and almost ended in an emergency c-section) that I seriously contemplated her being my last baby- even though I'd always wanted four children. I was a much younger mother when my boys were little and I was preoccupied most of the time with just surviving their baby-ness- so with Sally I really focused on completely enjoying it. And I'm not saying she made it totally easy...she was a little firecracker a lot of the time (she still is), but I do remember laying next to her as she slept and just marveling at her sweet little face, the amazing softness and smell of her skin, and the incredibly small proportions of her baby body. I thought that I looked at her so much I surely would have her baby image etched in my brain and would never forget it. I was wrong. Already as I look at baby pictures of her I'm amazed at how much I have forgotten and how much she has grown. She's definitely becoming a little girl and as she gets ready to start preschool this week I can't help but think that she'll be graduating from college before I know it.

After Toys R Us, Sally had her favorite lunch of chicken nuggets and strawberry smoothie at McDonalds- I even let her play as long as she wanted to.

After lunch, she had a refreshing dip in her favorite pool.
The kids are trying to get as much fun in the last week before school starts as possible. We'd been so busy that Shazer still hadn't had his visit with Nana & Pop-pop in Tucson this summer so when Anne came to stay with us last week while she volunteered at a convention about the demographics of people who go to museums, we thought it was the perfect opportunity for him to catch a free ride to Tucson- so she drove him to my parents' house last week ( Thanks Anne!) He has his meet the teacher tomorrow night so we had to go and pick him up, but my parents will be coming to visit us this weekend when Tammy and Austin spend the night with us before flying to Hawaii. So we figured Sally would love to spend a couple days by herself with Nana and Pop-pop and they can bring her back to us on Saturday. So today as I picked up Shazer and brought him home, I dropped off my little birthday princess. I'm sure she'll have super fun with her grandparents who seem to think that they can't spoil her enough.
