Halloween Part 1: Tucson Trunk-or-Treat

Who is that hippie dude?

Since Halloween fell on a Saturday this year we decided to cater to the grandparents and take the kids down to Tucson so they could see them in costume. First we went to my parents' tri-ward Trunk-or-Treat at the Bonanza building. It was pretty impressive. They had a really good turn out with people passing out candy from their trunks; we brought our jack o'lanterns and the skeleton that Jon made and my mom passed out candy from the back of our van with Jesse. Jesse was hilarious- he dressed as a folk singer and played and sang a bunch of hippie songs. People had a hard time figuring out who he was. So funny!

I took a picture of this amazing Chinese Dragon costume that fit six kids before I even realized who's kids they were because I thought this would be a great idea for Tim & Clarisa Gailey's family (they have 8 kids now). Turns out it was the kids of another high school friend- Jamie (Smith) Bradley. She actually has seven kids (all girls except for 1 boy in the middle) but the youngest was too small for the costume. It was such a well made and imaginitive costume- very impressive! Great job, Adam and Jamie! It turns out that the Bradley family, including Jamie's mom, sister, and cousin were practically running the carnival style food, as well. They had hot dogs and chili, nachos, big dill pickles, cupcakes and icecream, rootbeer and probably some other foods that I'm forgetting and it was all named scary names like Ogre Fingers (huge dill pickles on a stick), or snotchos (green nacho cheese on chips). And her cousin was dressed as a clown and made balloon animals. It was really fun for the kids and the food was really good. We saw Billy Oliver and his wife (who made an excellent Maleficent) helping out with the icecream. He tried to convince Sally that she was eating an ogre's finger, but she wouldn't hear it ;)

We gave the boys a little more elbow room than we usually do and let them go around to everyone's cars on their own. It's hard for me not to try to shelter them all the time. I figured this was a relatively safe place for them to feel a little more freedom and to prove that they can be responsible and trustworthy. Plus, the girls are so slow we knew that if we made the boys wait for them they would have been miserable. They did a great job of following the rules and they ended up getting finished way before us (we didn't even make it to all the cars) and then played on the grass with some old friends. But that's why we don't have any pictures of them during the trunk-or-treat.

The girls had a blast trunk-or-treating and it was really fun seeing old friends like Fred and Bonnie Heidenriech and their daughter, Heather. Aside from the Olivers and Bradleys, we also saw Darin and Elaina Brabant and Nephi Raehl. Good times :)

NOT an Ogre Finger ;)
