Linda bought Sophie these soft, brightly colored, foam building blocks for her birthday, but Sally is the one who has gone crazy over them. There are 200 in a huge bag and she just dumps the entire thing out on the living room floor (we made a new moderation rule today- no more dumping). The first day, all I heard was "Momma, come build a castle with me," and I did the first three or four times (Sally enjoys knocking the castle down as soon as it is finished almost as much as Sophie enjoys knocking it down during construction). Finally, I wizened up and told Sally how big and smart she is and that I knew she could make an amazing castle all by herself. At first, she disagreed, but with enough encouragement she finally started and now she is just building like crazy all on her own (which I appreciate extremely). This is one of her very own creations :) (Once again, notice the protruding tongue- evidence that she's deep in thought- cracks me up!)

I've heard it said that a girl compares her prospective marriage partner with her own father, in that case I feel sorry for any boys that come a courtin' our girls because it's most likely that they'll never measure up. Jon is just way too cool. Aside from the normal good dad stuff he does like reading to them, helping to care for them, provide for them, and snuggle them, he's also written them songs and serenades them to sleep, he takes them for rides on his skateboard, and puts on amazing juggling performances. He's fun, gentle, loving, and kind, and good at just about everything, and what he's not good at he can usually become good at a much faster rate than the average human if he puts his mind to it. You may think that I am over stating the truth, and I may have conceded to that possibility if it were 12 years ago when we first got married, but now that I've known him so intimately for this long and witnessed him in action- it truly is impressive, he's amazingly focused, hard working, and has above average intelligence, he's also terribly modest and will be uncomfortable about me saying these things but I'm just feeling like sharing what I'm thinking. He's usually a pretty quiet guy and doesn't like to toot his own horn (so to speak) so sometimes his amazingness might go unnoticed. We sure are fortunate to have him. Sometime I'll get a good shot of Jon giving Sally a ride on the skateboard.
(blushing) I do have some flaws, but it's nice of Marisa to forget about those easily.
ReplyDeleteI don't think you're overstating the truth - everything you say about Jon is true.
ReplyDeleteLooks like Sally has gone through a growth spurt - she's a lot taller than Sophie now. Looking forward to seeing both of them in person soon - our car should be ready to pick up on Monday, so maybe next Saturday...
Ah Ha!Starting at Jon and running several paragraphs is the longest run on sentence in the history of mankind. This gives The Queen of Run-on sentences a free card from criticism now and into eternity. I'm sorry my little Language Arts Teacher, it appears the ailment is hereditery!
ReplyDeleteI do agree with all you have said about Jon he is an awesome Dad!
Hahaha! Very funny, Mom! I don't know though, I think you still hold the title for the "longest run-on sentence in the history of mankind." :) While my sentences were very lengthy, they were not quite run-ons because of my use of commas to break up independent clauses. You are right about my tendency to be long winded in my writing, though, and it MUST be hereditary ;)
ReplyDeleteI just love smiling when I come here! Ahhhhhhh!
