Super Hero Saturday

Shazer and his Super Hero Caricature

On Saturday Jon took the boys to the Changing Hands Bookstore here in Tempe. It's a great little bookstore that hosts all kinds of fun events; costume storytimes, Zootails (they have people come from the Phoenix Zoo to show animals and read stories about them), various book clubs, book signings, and other fun seasonal activities. This past Saturday they had a three hour Super Hero event. Kids could come dressed as their favorite super heroes and win prizes, they had Tony Carrillo- the creator of "F Minus" cartoon giving cartooning demonstrations (see photo below), a caricature artist (see photo above), Science Is Fun group had holograms and other fun experiments they presented, and a guy who owns Macfarlane Toys passed out free toys. Apparently my boys are too cool to dress as super heroes (they never were into superman, batman, or spiderman, etc. even as little boys) but no matter because Shazer won the door prize- 2 free tickets to the Renaissance Festival coming up this month ($40 value) AND three free passes to play Lazer tag at "The World's Largest Technotainment Laser Tag Arena" in Mesa. Super awesome! Now the boys will have some fun, FREE!! stuff to do next week for spring break! Jon also scored two free shirts for the new 3D stop anmiation movie- Coraline- which looks really good. I'm loving our bookstore! Next Saturday they are having a big Dr. Suess's birthday celebration with character trivia games, a scavenger hunt, costume character contests, crafts, and free Green Eggs and Ham served by the Wildflower Bread Company. My boys and girls are dressing up for that one- so stay tuned for some cute pics.
