Renaissance Festival

On Saturday, March 6th we took the whole family out to the Renaissance Festival. It was my first time going and it was a blast- a gorgeous day and a ton of fun. Unfortunately, we had given up looking for our camera after searching for it for 20 minutes just before were about to leave. The only pictures we have were taken on our cell phones- which don't have the best resolution, so please bare with me. The kids loved the Klan Tinkers- this was a funny one man wrestling bit they did, there was also juggling, dancing, magic, a lot of jokes, and music- very entertaining.

He hit his target on the first try and secured himself an honorary knighthood. He says this was the highlight of the day for him. We called him Sir Shazer the rest of the day. 

Sally loved dressing up as a fairy princess and was too cute as she danced to some live harp music. 

Shule says this was a highlight for him, even though he didn't think it really fit the Renaissance theme. A first for everyone riding the elephant. We couldn't fit our whole family up there and I'd ridden an elephant before so I stayed on the ground with Sophie. 

There were lots of other fun activities that we enjoyed but didn't capture, like a glass blowing demonstration, wood carving, wool spinning with a wheel, black smithing, eating yummy foods and watching actual jousting and other knightly drills. Shule took home a cool wooden wand, Shazer a toy wooden battle ax, and Sally a toy wooden dagger. Sally and Shazer painted and decorated their weapons when they got home and I'll have to share pictures of the results later. We had a lot of fun and are sure there was lots more to see that we'd like to see next year. Think we could win tickets three years in a row? We'll be crossing our fingers but not holding our breath ;)
