Have you ever had something happen to you that just seemed way too bizarre, like it couldn't have been planned any better to be more funny or coincidental? Nothing like that has happened to me recently but I was just thinking about a couple of times in the past when it almost felt like we were the unsuspecting actors in some comedic movie. Once when I was a young teenager my mom and I were driving home (Tammy may have been with us, I'm not sure) from fairly far away and after a while we noticed that the same car that was behind us had been following us for a while. It spooked us a little so we wanted to test it to see if it would keep following us and we proceeded to make turn after random turn...the car still followed us. After four or five turns down residential streets we began to get very spooked. We decided that we couldn't go home because we didn't want them to know where we lived so we thought we could pull up to some house in a nearby neighborhood and wait to see if they would go by. So we completely randomly choose a house to pull up to, stop the car, and wait. The car behind us pulls right up into the drive way, the couple get out and give us puzzled looks as if to say "Do we know you?", and we take our cue to floor it and get out of there. We had inadvertently pulled up right in front of these stranger's house. All the time we thought we were the victims but it turned out we were the stalkers! In hindsight it's hilarious but at the time we were seriously feeling more like we were in a scary thriller.
Another time, all of my teenage siblings and I and a number of their skater friends went to the drive-in to see some double feature , during the intermission someone thought it would be fun to see if they could throw something high enough into the path of the projectors to see it's shadow on the big screen. Just about all the boys start throwing cups or whatever they had in their hands and sure enough they could see the shadows. Then Tammy gets the brilliant idea to kick her shoe off as hard as she can to see if the same theory works. Sure enough, the dark shoe shoots straight up so high that it gets completely lost in the dark of the night. Everyone's looking up trying to catch a glimpse of the shoe for what seems like minutes but must have only been seconds. Tammy starts backing up trying to see it and all of a sudden the shoe hits her right on the head! She couldn't have planned that better if she had tried.
The last one I'll share doesn't have anything to do with me but it's one of the best coincidental stories I've ever heard. Hopefully I tell it accurately. My brother-in-law, Kelby and his wife, Daina were high school sweethearts, meeting in their early teens through mutual friends but going to different high schools. They knew each other for many years before they got married and probably thought they knew everything about each other. After they got married and were unpacking into their first apartment together one of them (I'm not sure which but let's say Daina for better storytelling) noticed that Kelby had her kindergarten picture in with his things, when she asked him about it he said that it was his kindergarten picture. Sure enough, on closer inspection they see their 5 year old selves sitting right next to each other in the front row! Crazy!
I'd love to hear any of your unbelievable stories in the comment section.
